Online Multiplayer

Setting up multiplayer in THPS 1+2 is relatively straightforward, depending on the connection type you want to use. The first one we’ll go over is online multiplayer with friends, which requires you to start a new Party by opening up the ‘Multiplayer’ tab from the game’s main menu and selecting ‘Quick Playlist.’

From here, press Tab on the keyboard, Dualshock Touchpad, or Xbox Menu button to pull up the Party-list. Scroll over to your Friend list and select the player you want to invite. Once they accept, they’ll be added to your Party, and you can start playing together.

Keep in mind that Parties are restricted from online matchmaking into Competitive modes like Free Skate, Tag, Graffiti, and Horse. If you want to play those modes, you’ll have to leave your Party and use online matchmaking with randoms, although there’s no guarantee your friend will be in the same lobby as you.

Local Multiplayer

Suppose you and your friends are together in the same location. In that case, you may want to take advantage of THPS 1+2’s local multiplayer support. The game gives you the option to play using a local split-screen or LAN connection with multiple PCs.

Once everyone has a controller, head over to the ‘Local’ section of the ‘Multiplayer’ tab and choose the mode you want to play.

Have the other players join by connecting their controllers. THPS 1+2 supports up to eight players locally and online, so you should have plenty of room for all your friends.

While there are eight multiplayer modes in THPS 1+2, some are restricted to either local or online multiplayer. Below, we’ve provided a list of every activity along with their multiplayer requirements and main objectives:

Local/Online Modes

  • Score Challenge: First player to reach the target score wins.
  • Combo Challenge: First player to reach the target combo score wins.
  • Trick Attack: The player with the highest score at the end of the time limit wins.
  • Combo Mambo: The player with the highest combo score at the end of the time limit wins.
  • Graffiti: Players tag and steal objects by performing trick combos. The player with the most Tags at the end of the time limit wins.

Local Only Modes

  • Free Skate (Online support coming in a future update): Skate around a level and practice tricks with no objectives.
  • Tag: One player is “It” at the start of each round. The player who is “It” for the least amount of time wins.
  • Horse: Players compete for the highest combo score. Failing to exceed an opponent’s previous score results in a letter. The first player to earn the letters H-O-R-S-E loses.
