Best Settings For The Division 2 – Increase FPS, Boost Performance

Tom Clancy’s The Divison 2 is out on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Here are the optimal settings for the PC game to ensure that you’re getting the best possible frame rates that your system can squeeze out of it.

This article is for you all. If you just want better performance or if you’re lagging and want to get rid of it, this optimization guide is for you.

The first step is to identify which resolution and frame rate you should target with your setup. See the system requirements for 1080p, 1440p and 4K below and try to determine where your PC is.

PC Settings

Do you have a gaming laptop? If so, ensure that the battery mode is set to High performance. Also, make sure that your graphics card drivers are up to date, as NVIDIA and AMD have rolled out big driver updates before the launch that will boost the performance significantly.

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, we recommend that you also perform the following optimizations. Note that some of these settings may not be available to you.

1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and navigate to Manage 3D settings.
2. Select the tab Program settings and find The Divison 2. If you can’t find it, click on Add and try to find it here. Try running the game first and close it down again if you can’t find it.
3. Under the dropdown called Select the preferred graphics processor for this program, select High-performance NVIDIA processor. This ensures that the game does not use your integrated GPU, which many people were reporting issues with.
4. Set Maximum pre-rendered frames to 1.
5. Set Monitor technology to G-SYNC (if applicable).
6. Set Multi-Display/Mixed GPU acceleration to Single display performance mode.
7. Set Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance.
8. Set Texture filtering – Quality to Performance.
9. Disable Vertical sync.
10. Enable Threaded optimization.
11. Set Preferred refresh rate to Highest available.
12. Apply the changes and navigate to Adjust desktop size and position.
13. Check the checkbox Override the scaling mode set by games and programs and click on Apply.

Optimize Your The Division 2 Game

Let’s optimize The Divison 2 now. There are tons of settings to mess around with, and these are only our recommended settings, so you should probably tweak them a bit to your liking.

14. Set Volumetric Fog to Medium. This setting has a high impact on performance

17. Set Vegetation Quality to High
18. Set Sub-Surface Scattering to On
19. Set Anisotropic Filtering to 16x
20. Set Parallax Mapping to Yes
21. Set Ambient Occlusion to High
22. Set Depth of Field to On
23. Set Object Detail to 100. This setting has a high impact on performance, but also one of the highest effect on the visuals. We recommend setting this at 100 and then turning it down afterward (but no more than 60)
24. Set Extra Streaming Distance to 10
25. Set Lens Flare to On
26. Set Vignette Effect to On
27. Set Water Quality to High
28. Set Chromatic Aberration to On
29. Set Projected Texture Resolution to 512
30. Set High-Resolution Sky Textures to Yes
31. Set Terrain Quality to High
32. Apply these settings and now click on Video at the left menu
33. Set Windowed Mode to Fullscreen
34. Set Resolution to your monitor’s native resolution
35. Set Refresh Rate to the highest possible value
36. Set Enable Reduced Latency to Yes

Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization

Let’s disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization now. Simply follow these instructions:

1. Open the Windows start menu and enter Windows update settings and click on the search result for it.
2. Click on Advanced options.
3. Click on Delivery optimization.
4. Ensure that the Allow downloads from other PCs setting is off.

Disable OneDrive

We recommend that you disable OneDrive if you’re not using it. Right-click on the OneDrive icon on your taskbar and click on Exit.

Optimizing Discord

If you happen to use Discord, ensure that you optimize it as well to boost your FPS in all your games.

1. Open up Discord and go to the User settings page.
2. Click on the Appearance tab and uncheck the Hardware acceleration setting.

Optimizing Google Chrome

You can also turn off hardware acceleration in Google Chrome so that background applications executed by Chrome do not consume too many resources when you’re playing The Division 2.

1. Open up Google Chrome and go to the Settings page.
2. Scroll all the way down and click on the Advanced tab.
3. Again, scroll all the way down and make sure that the setting Use hardware acceleration when available is switched off.
4. Relaunch Google Chrome and close it again.

Clean Your Temporary Files

1. Press the Start button, search after %localappdata% and press Enter.
2. Open up the Temp folder.
3. Now press CTRL + A to select all files in the folder.
4. Press the Delete button on your keyboard to delete these temporary files. Skip the ones it can’t delete.
5. Finally, empty your recycle bin.
